API (Application Program Interface)

An API is a set of routines, protocols, and tools for building software Applications. An API is a set of programming instructions for accessing a web-based software application or web tool. It gives access for users to access the functions and data of an application, allowing users to build their own applications and services that interact with the application. APIs are commonly used to let developers create applications, with the leveraged data and functionality of other applications.

Although APIs are designed for programmers, they are ultimately of advantage to users because they guarantee that all programs using a common API will have similar interfaces. Overall, Service APIs provide a convenient and efficient way for software systems to communicate and integrate with each other, enabling developers to build more complex and powerful applications, while also making it easier for new users to learn new programs.
